Using Magnetic Snaps That Aren’t Visible

First and foremost, these hidden ones are excellent for accessories. The prong-style magnetic snaps happen to be also excellent, but if you had to choose between the two, go with the hidden ones. This is why:

They have a modest profile and appear to be quite professional.

The fabric is not strained as you pull them apart to open things. Because the prongs are stressing the fabric, you can sometimes use your fingernail to gently separate them.

You do not need to cut the fabric and try then to strengthen the cut edges.

There’s no folding the prongs. It’s just lovely not to have to bother with the prongs at all.

You don’t have to concern about scratching the snaps if they pass over the neck plate when you’re finished.

The Fundamentals

There are two sections.  One is positive and one is negative hard it’s to tell which is which. But these are different hues, so you can identify them apart. They may not always be different colours, but they should be delivered to you in two distinct groups.

As you can see in the photos, one is a brass colour (+) and the other is silver (-). Think about the brass ones as positive and the silver ones as negative just to have a reference. To complete the set, you’ll need one of each.

Each snap use to have a cap on one side and a flat side. The flat sides happen to be the ones that must come together to form the magnetic field. Get the magnetic snaps wholesaleonline.

You want to keep them apart in addition to telling them apart and recognising which sides are drawn to each other. This isn’t as big of a concern if they’re in a vinyl casing, but if they don’t have a casing, you might have a hard time taking them apart again.

The Enclosure

A color-coded case system will let you know when you have a set and which sides must face each other.

One side should be plain white or another light coloured cloth, and the other should have two different prints. The flat side is always facing the white/light cloth, while the domed side is facing the print.

The two different prints represent (+) and (-), and the light fabric will be the layer closest to the exterior/lining fabric. It is less likely to show through the inner or outside fabric because it is white/light.

You hand baste them between the layers of cloth.  In general, you can use a light coloured thread (again, the displaying issue), but you can use green to make it easier to see in the images. They don’t require much sewing to be secure, so some stitches about the outside would enough.

It took longer to machine best them into the casings than it did to hand sew them. You may also try fusing them between two pieces of cloth and fusible interfacing. That worked fine, although there was one escape where the interfacing didn’t fuse properly.

Stick with hand stitching, but fusing could be a good choice if you are careful to ensure that all edges fuse well.

Then trim the fabric to leave around 0.75″ around the magnet. That leaves enough to sew as well as pin.
