As you can see in the photos, one is a brass colour (+) and the other is silver (-). Think about the brass ones as positive and the silver ones as negative just to have a reference. To complete the set, you’ll need one of each.

You want to keep them apart in addition to telling them apart and recognising which sides are drawn to each other. This isn’t as big of a concern if they’re in a vinyl casing, but if they don’t have a casing, you might have a hard time taking them apart again.

A color-coded case system will let you know when you have a set and which sides must face each other.

One side should be plain white or another light coloured cloth, and the other should have two different prints. The flat side is always facing the white/light cloth, while the domed side is facing the print.

The two different prints represent (+) and (-), and the light fabric will be the layer closest to the exterior/lining fabric. It is less likely to show through the inner or outside fabric because it is white/light.

You hand baste them between the layers of cloth.  In general, you can use a light coloured thread (again, the displaying issue), but you can use green to make it easier to see in the images. They don’t require much sewing to be secure, so some stitches about the outside would enough.

It took longer to machine best them into the casings than it did to hand sew them. You may also try fusing them between two pieces of cloth and fusible interfacing. That worked fine, although there was one escape where the interfacing didn’t fuse properly.

Stick with hand stitching, but fusing could be a good choice if you are careful to ensure that all edges fuse well.

Then trim the fabric to leave around 0.75″ around the magnet. That leaves enough to sew as well as pin.
